Creative Arts Photography Programme.

Over 40 participants from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will engage in a 4-week Creative Arts Programme that explores shared history and experiences through photography.

This programme is for over 21 years olds. 3 x outdoor sessions in the local district and final session in Belfast on the 17th September.

The final session will be held in Belfast where all participants come together and have a historical guided bus tour which will include International Wall Murals and Belfast Peace Walls.

The participants will be aged 21 years old and over. Participants will learn how to capture photographs using mobile devices and how to use and download apps to enhance photographs.

Flavour in the Forest

Come and join us for a taste of cultures from around the world featuring foods from Asian, Caribbean, and Mongolian cultures, music and dance performances from Persian, Kurdish and Afghanistan artist, as well as Indian and Arabic arts and crafts.

This is a celebration of cultures through food, music, dance and crafts from around the world taking place on Saturday 24th September at Slieve Gullion Courtyard and Amphitheatre.

This free event is family friendly and interactive.

It has been supported by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Radius Housing Association and Arbour Housing Association

 

Light Theatre Company ‘Bananas’ Screening 2

Light Theatre Company CIC is delighted to host a film screening of our short film ‘Bananas’ as part of Good Relations Week.

Bananas follow Rose as she tells her story of recovery from mental ill health and homelessness. Filmed in beautiful Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor during the Covid Pandemic, with financial assistance from Newry, Mourne & Down District Council, the film recently won an Award of Excellence for Leading Actress at the WRPN Women’s International Film Festival in the USA.

-Saturday, September 24th at 7 pm. – Sinead Lunny’s ‘Vocalis’ Speech and Drama Studio in Banbridge.

The events will include musical interludes and readings of poetry followed by a discussion on the theme ‘Change Starts With Us.’

Little Ones Day Nursery – Voice of the Child

Early years settings with a diverse range of practitioners, children and family backgrounds, were invited and encouraged to consider what ‘Brighter Days Ahead’ means to them. We have captured their creative interpretation of this through the voice of the child and those who care for them, based on the Good Relations Week theme. 

Cultural Tea Boxes – Radius Housing

Radius Housing is providing tenants in the Shared Developments in Rockmount Close and Ardmore Meadows & Surrounding Radius developments with Cultural Tea Boxes to celebrate Good Relations Week!

The Emigrant Woman’s Tale – A Film by Alistair Livingstone

The Light Theatre Company will screen the ‘Emigrant Woman’s Tale’ film for a cross-community audience with a discussion about emigration/immigration, memories of the Troubles and the Cold War.

The film of Fil Campbell and Csilla Toldy’s stage show was directed by Alistair Livingstone and made during the lock down with a small professional film crew from Slack Press Studio in Newry.

The film will be held at the Rostrevor Inn.

Tickets are £9.50 including wine and finger food.

The Community Relations Council presents “Brighter Days” music video by Beyond Skin

The Community Relations Council presents the release of the musical track “Brighter Days” curated by Beyond Skin and written and performed by one of Northern Ireland’s finest musicians, Rwanda Shaw and Jessica Hammond from Black Studios Dundonald.

The song references the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is part of a wider SDG’s Youth4Peace project enabling a legacy from Good Relations Week with the Brighter Days theme echoing through intercultural arts activities running until March 2022.

Newry Mourne and Down Intercultural Forum

Newry Mourne and Down Intercultural Forum Good Relations week event will bring together Forum members with special guest speakers from the Community Relations Council including Chairperson Martin McDonald and Board Member John McCallister. The Intercultural Forum meeting on Thursday 23rd September will also see the launch of the new Newry Mourne and Down Intercultural Forum Blog that will offer advice and information to all communities.

The Intercultural Forum is already contributing to ensure the dissemination of vital information and support to BME communities across the district. The aim of the forum is to adopt a strategic approach to identify the real needs of BME communities living in the district.
