Voices Without Borders

The Voices without borders event will take place in the Firtrees Hotel, Strabane on 15th Oct 2025 at 11am, it will bring together local people of all ages and backgrounds with people from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker communities. The event will create a safe space where attendees rotate around tables hosted by individuals with lived experience of arriving in Northern Ireland. Through personal storytelling and conversation, participants will gain a better understanding of the challenges and experiences of those from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

The project specifically aims to engage people who have had little or no previous engagement with migrants, asylum seekers, or refugees, and who may have limited understanding of the differences between these groups or the difficulties they face. By creating personal connections, the event will promote empathy, challenge stereotypes, and strengthen good community relations in the area.

Aims:

-To promote positive relations and mutual understanding between local people and people from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds in Sion Mills and surrounding areas.

-To increase awareness of the diverse experiences and challenges faced by people who move to Northern Ireland seeking safety or opportunity.

-To engage community members who have not previously participated in good relations activities or intercultural events.
