WheelWorks – 25 Done; 25 to Come

WheelWorks has recently marked our 25th anniversary and are looking forward to the next 25 years forging new connections — what might this future look like?

This online event will reflect on current and past Good Relations programmes led by WheelWorks A panel discussion led by our artists and facilitators will explore innovation in good relation arts programmes and how we can further impact positive change in the lives of young people who participate in them.

WheelWorks have been working with young people and communities in Northern Ireland for the last 25 years promoting good relations, positive change and creative expression.

Brighter Days Ahead: The role of the voluntary and community sector in supporting good relations amongst young people

NICVA celebrates Good Relations Week 2021 with an online event examining the role of the voluntary and community sector in supporting good relations amongst Northern Ireland’s young people. We will hear from Chris Quinn, Director of the Northern Ireland Youth Forum and Cherith Cummins, Co-Ordinator of Include Youth Strive Programme, as well as from young people who have benefitted from the work of voluntary and community organisations.

Seeing Between the Lines: Gender and Representation in the UTV archive.

This event will reflect on the partnership project between PRONI and NI Screen to preserve, digitise and make available the UTV archive.

This event will focus on a project run by PRONI and the Making the Future project in 2020 which brought together a group of young people during lockdown to engage with and reinterpret female representation, sexism and gender equality in the UTV archive.

Future Leaders, Future Ambitions

Future Leaders, Future Ambitions is a panel discussion comprised of past and present participants of the Future Leaders Programme.

Bringing a diverse range of opinions and voices together, participants will discuss their aspirations and ambitions for the future of community work and peacebuilding activities in the North-West.

The Churches in Ireland from Plantation to Partition and the Emergence of Two Irish States: 1600-1950

This virtual lecture will  provide an opportunity to explore the roles of different church traditions in Ireland spanning over 400 years. It aims to offer new insights and an opportunity for constructive dialogue. The talk will explore the background to the main Christian Churches in Ireland from the Plantation and Penal times to the twentieth century. It will focus particularly on the reactions of the main Irish Churches to such key issues as the Home Rule Question, the Great War and the 1916 Rising and partition and the creation of Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State during 1920-22. It will examine the religious background of major figures such as Carson, Craig and Devlin and role of the main Churches in shaping the two Irish states after 1922.

Dr Éamon Phoenix will explore the roles of different church traditions in Ireland, focusing particularly on the first half of the 20th century. It will examine the religious background of major political figures and role of the main Churches in shaping the two Irish states after 1922.

Do We Listen and Learn from Local Peace Practitioners?

This online event is recognition and celebration of many years of Good Relation and peacebuilding work carried out by community activists.

Co-hosted by practitioners and academics, the event will explore how we can better harness the knowledge gained by peace practitioners to strengthen social policy. You will also learn more on how they collaborate with academia to build more robust and nuanced theory, and finally, to challenge, energise and inspire the next generation of civil society peacebuilders.

The B Word: Brexit, Border and belonging – Tides

TIDES training is hosting a virtual conversation exploring ‘The B Word: Brexit, Borders and Belonging’.

This conversation will explore ideas how and where we feel a sense of belonging and how borders are created between these places of belonging and ultimately provide the opportunity to discuss the current Brexit situation, and to understand the range of opinions and emotions present in communities across the region. It will also be a space for participants to have their voices heard.
