“Don’t Hate, Debate”
Details:
Debate 1: This House Believes Hate Crime Legislation is in Need of Review
Debate 2: This House Believes Communities Address Hate Crime Better than the Criminal Justice System
New hate crime legislation is likely to be tabled and debated in the NI Assembly this year. From Victim Support NI’s perspective, it is imperative this new legislation is passed in order to better support victims. Of course, differing views exist – and this event aims to explore them and establish best steps forward.
In anticipation of the upcoming Assembly deliberation on hate crime, we will be hosting two debates with The Literific (Debating at Queen’s) over the legislation and wider hate crime issues.
You will also be treated to some special guest speakers and deliberators, receive updates on the ongoing work of the ‘We Stand Together’ campaign, be treated to a few laughs (to offset the seriousness of the topic), while being immersed in the most heated debates outside Stormont’s walls.
Through topics covered, advocates and students across all sectors will be given the opportunity to hone and sharpen their talking points for the ‘real thing’.
