Wednesday Night Stories

This event brings adults and young people together from across the City sharing stories and life experiences as well as the challenges and people they have met along the way. These stories form the basis of the discussions around living well together.

Wednesday Night Stories is a weekly intergenerational storytelling session that aims to bring people together in a friendly and welcoming environment to share stories from their experiences. It is hosted by Park Youth, a programme at St. Columb’s Park House. This special Good Relations Week edition will be themed around “First Impressions”.

Venue:  The Walled Garden in St. Columb’s Park House. Limited spaces are available.

Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires brings young people and adults together from across the City to work together building and cooking on a fire in such a way that is respectful to and protect nature and the local environment.

This will be a “Leave No Trace” fire building lesson hosted by Park Youth, including the opportunity to cook on fire.

All ages welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult). Limited spaces are available.

Getting to know you and our City

Getting to know you and our City brings young people and older adults together from across the Council area to visit our City’s historic landmarks and to hear stories from the older generation about these landmarks.

The group will visit a number of historic landmarks with the older generation sharing their stories and life experiences about each of these monuments and museum content.

 

Celebrating Life – Derry Central Library

A Poetry Workshop with the RNIB. The Celebrating Life workshop examines a selection of life-affirming poetry, from the spiritual words of Rumi, to the guiding perspective of Mary Oliver and ending with the linguistic experimentation of E.E. Cummings.

Good Relations Resource Pack Workshop

Members of the T:BUCC Camps Ambassadors programme are delivering a range of activities and sessions from the Good Relations Resource Pack to demonstrate how to best utilise the resource.

This is specifically targeted at training peer mentors, young leaders and volunteers who will assist with the future delivery of a T:BUCC Camps programme.

Pawsitive Walks & Talks – Disability Sport NI

Disability Sport NI is hosting a low-intensity fitness programme, aimed at those who suffer from health conditions, disabled people, older people and those interested in becoming more active.

The class is part of GOGA In Action programme which is funded by Live Active NI and Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

Pawsative Walks & Talks is a weekly occurrence that will bring people together from different backgrounds, to walk and learn about each other along the way!

Flags, Identity and History

Newry, Mourne & Down District Council presents a facilitated workshop for a group of young people in partnership with the Education Authority. The workshop will focus on flags, identity and shared history, encouraging respect and understanding among our young people.

 

Learning African Culture through art & music

As part of Good Relations Week 2021, primary school children will have the opportunity to experience African culture within a different environment through art.

Participants will take part in a music class and learn the skills of African drumming. They will also learn about African heritage and the importance of African masks, participants will finish the class by designing their own masks.

Chinese Cultural Awareness Day

As part of Good Relations Week 2021, Chinese Cultural Awareness Day will provide young primary school children with opportunity to experience the culture within a different environment through the art.  Participants will take part in a music class and learn the skills of Chinese Dancing. They will also learn about Chinese culture & heritage and the importance of dance to their culture. Following which they will design their own masks
