Run by Friends of Derry City Cemetery
A guided walk around Derry City Cemetery with a focus on our shared history , heritage and a sacred shared space.
Join Seamus Breslin and Trevor Temple on an historic walk around the graves of politicians, industrialists, patriots, sports people and those who built this city from the ground. This is a tour for all ages. Visit the tallest headstone in N. Ireland, poor plots and vaults of historic figures. The focus of this tour is not just the people but the site itself. Once the pride of all the city for many years it became a "cold place"to visit for many in the protestant community due to the troubles and its proximity to the Bogside and Creggan. Some protestant families even reinterred their loved ones in Waterside graveyards. Times have changed and the historic jewel is visited frequently by families and groups from all religions [or none] and traditions. This is a hill top site and requires a decent level of fitness. Please wear walking footwear and dress for the weather . Meeting point top gate at Creggan.
