Debate Conference

Parallel Histories offers a new way to study the history of conflict – history which is still contested, controversial and relevant. Our teaching methodology challenges students to understand both sides, examine the source evidence and debate alternative interpretations before coming to their own view.

Our debating conference will invite seven schools from across Northern Ireland to join us in Stormont, the home of the Northern Ireland Assembly on Friday 22nd September 2023, 10am to 2pm for what promises to be a fantastic day of debate and discussion.

Introduced by Robbie Butler MLA, deputy leader of the UUP, the event gives the opportunity for schools across Northern Ireland to come together to share their own perspectives and interpretations of the contested history of Northern Ireland.

The ChangeMaker Programme 2

As an organisation WheelWorks Arts recognised the changing landscape of NI and the need for us to engage public and third sector staff who work with youth groups, schools, and the public, looking at the different attitudes and cultural diversity that they deal with daily.

Through consultation and research, we devised the ChangeMaker training programme, which is designed to empower community, youth, good relations, events, arts, museums, and leisure services employees. ChangeMaker can also be tailored for staff within the administrative, customer services and customer facing roles, as well as management and councillors.

ChangeMaker is a coaching and creatively blended cultural empowerment training tool. It will involve creative and interactive workshops, promoting cultural expression, peer networking, soft skills development, good relationship building and nurturing cultural intelligence.

Through group coaching exercises, creative thinking and an interactive creative exercise, ChangeMaker will enhance cultural understanding, partnership working and reignite an appreciation of cultural intelligence and good relations within the workplace and beyond.

To find out more about the project call into our office on Wednesday 21st September or Thursday 22nd September  – when we will be hosting the WheelWorks Mini Festival – to chat to Lesley Cherry and find out more about the programme.  11am to 3pm each day

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion – Beyond PC world

What are our blind spots? We are influenced by the people & experiences we have; the music & literature we are exposed to; and the information we access. This can increasingly lead to misconceptions and misunderstanding of others.

With a focus on EDI policy, we often miss the heart of the issue, and don’t know where we can turn to for support or to address myths and misunderstanding.

Our session will aim to address some of the challenges in a supportive environment!

Anyone can register for the event!
