BCRC Book Club introduces ‘War and memory’

Building Communities Resource Centre will host a Book Club Session as part of Good Relations Week 2021. Participants will explore book ‘War and Memory’ by Johnston McMaster and Cathy Higgins. Books are supplied by The Junction.

This book club will be facilitated by Gemma Reid.

These sessions will reflect on our history over the last 100 years and provide a unique opportunity for continued shared learning.

BCRC 1690 ‘The History of The Twelfth’ Workshop

Building Communities Resource Centre will deliver workshop ‘The History of The Twelfth’ for Good Relations Week.

This workshop will be facilitated by Kathy Wolff and will provide an opportunity for shared learning with a shared history context of 1690 and the lead up to the Battle of The Boyne.

This is just one of four workshops they will be hosting during Good Relations Week 2021. These sessions aim to help participants uncover the fact and fictions held by both communities around the heritage of this time and provide the opportunity to explore and discuss how elements of this history are shared between the two main communities in Northern Ireland.

BCRC Civic Youth Voice Graphic Design Workshop

BCRC  presents craft based workshop offering young members of BCRC Civic Youth Voice the opportunity to come together to develop and design a logo that will represent the BCRC Civic Youth Voice going forward.

This event is in partnership with Courthouse Project Bushmills.

Members are representative of young people across Causeway Coast and Glens and are focused on working collectively, across communities to raise awareness of issues affecting young people today.

Super Healthy Teens

Libraries NI will be hosting an online virtual healthy eating demonstration for 12-16-year-olds. The virtual cookery class will help them improve their cooking abilities and nurture an awareness of how healthy eating can protect us by keeping our bodies and the environment healthy and happy.

The demonstration will be delivered by Jane McClenaghan.

BCRC Verbal Arts Story

This verbal arts story session will bring together a group of women across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough to participate in a storytelling of their choice.

This session will take place within a shared space environment or via zoom and will be facilitated by Katie McGuiness.

 

EA Intercultural Education Service Good Practice Event

EA Intercultural Education Service’s Intercultural Education Good Practice day will help promote good relations in schools and communities by raising awareness of  best practices and evidence-based approaches to supporting Newcomer pupils in schools and educational settings

Hair Brush! Singing Workshop with Siobhan Brown and Rwanda Shaw

As part of Good Relations Week 2021, Hair Brush! The Singing Workshop will focus on the cultural significance, heritage , sensitivities and social pressures of hair for people from African and Caribbean communities or of African descent.

In this fun but powerful virtual workshop Siobhan Brown (Singer, radio presenter, founder of Manukahunney & Cairde Community Choir) and Rwanda Shaw (Musician & Songwriter) will talk about how to overcome fears, peer pressure and cultural differences while learning how to show the world your authentic self.

GOGA Fit Banbridge

As part of Good Relations Week 2021, GOGA Fit Banbridge will be taking place on Friday. A low-intensity fitness programme aimed at people with health conditions, disabled people, older people and those interested in becoming more active, more often.

This class forms part of the GOGA In Action programme funded by Live Active NI and Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

 

Wednesday Night Stories

This event brings adults and young people together from across the City sharing stories and life experiences as well as the challenges and people they have met along the way. These stories form the basis of the discussions around living well together.

Wednesday Night Stories is a weekly intergenerational storytelling session that aims to bring people together in a friendly and welcoming environment to share stories from their experiences. It is hosted by Park Youth, a programme at St. Columb’s Park House. This special Good Relations Week edition will be themed around “First Impressions”.

Venue:  The Walled Garden in St. Columb’s Park House. Limited spaces are available.

Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires brings young people and adults together from across the City to work together building and cooking on a fire in such a way that is respectful to and protect nature and the local environment.

This will be a “Leave No Trace” fire building lesson hosted by Park Youth, including the opportunity to cook on fire.

All ages welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult). Limited spaces are available.
