Same Struggle, Same Fight: Workers’ Rights, Women’s Rights and Migrant Rights

Run by Migrant Workers' Union NI

Workers’, women’s, and migrant rights are often treated as separate, even when they intersect in people’s everyday lives. Join us for a conversation about what our movements can learn from one another, and what solidarity looks like in practice.

Workers’ rights, women’s rights and migrant rights are often discussed and organised around separately. Yet the people affected by insecure work, discrimination, racism, gender inequality, housing insecurity and barriers to accessing services rarely experience these issues one at a time.

Same Struggle, Same Fight brings together organisers and advocates working across workers’ rights, migrant justice, women’s rights, anti-racism and related community movements for a conversation about where these struggles intersect and what solidarity can look like in practice.

How do discrimination and inequality experienced in one part of someone’s life affect another? Where have different movements encountered the same barriers in different forms? What can organisers learn from one another? And how can we build alliances across nationality, race, gender, class and migration status without losing sight of the distinct experiences and needs of different communities?

Rather than a series of formal presentations, the event will be a facilitated panel conversation bringing together different perspectives and experiences, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion with the audience.

At a time when communities can easily be divided against one another, the evening asks what becomes possible when we recognise our shared interests, learn from our differences, and organise together.

The event is open to anyone interested in workers’ rights, equality, migration, community organising and building a more inclusive Northern Ireland.
