Unity Cup

The Unity EURO Cup demonstrates the power of football to unite people from different backgrounds and create a sense of belonging for refugees. Organised by UEFA and UNHCR, the mixed-gender tournament brings refugees and host community members together on the same team, fostering friendship, confidence and social inclusion. At the 2026 tournament, Team Northern Ireland will consist of seven refugee players and four local players, with a squad made up of eight men and three women. Since 2022, the competition has expanded significantly, with national associations across Europe strengthening refugee football programmes and creating more opportunities for integration. Through football, the tournament helps build stronger, more connected communities while promoting understanding, diversity and inclusion.
