Victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland Troubles from different community backgrounds are working together to create a permanent Peace Arch at Moneypennys Forge as a lasting peace art installation carrying messages of hope, unity and peace.
The REACT Peace Arch Project is a 16-week cross-community programme taking place at Moneypenny’s Forge. Men and women who are victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland Troubles, from different community backgrounds and traditions, are working together to design, forge and decorate a shared peace art installation.
The process provides a safe and supported environment for conversation, reflection, relationship-building and developing a shared message of hope and peace. A 16-week project will follow the story of the arch and the people creating it, highlighting what can be achieved when people from different backgrounds work collaboratively for peace.
The completed Peace Arch will be officially unveiled at Moneypenny’s Forge in December. It will remain there as a permanent peace art installation and a lasting legacy of the project. Following the unveiling, members of the public will be able to obtain a Lock for Peace at Moneypenny’s Forge, engrave it with a personal message for peace and attach it to the arch. These individual messages will allow the arch to grow as a living symbol of hope, unity and our shared commitment to peace.
The Peace Arch Project is delivered by REACT in partnership with ABC Council at Moneypenny’s Forge. It forms part of REACT’s Pathway to Peace project, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Reconciliation Fund.
